Winstock 2008 artists nominated for
ACM Awards

Winstock 2008 artists fared very well as the 43rd Annual Academy of Country Music Award nominees were announced March 4. Winstock headliner Reba McEntire will host the event for an unprecedented tenth year in a row.

“I am celebrating my tenth anniversary of hosting the Academy of Country Music Awards,” Reba McEntire said. “I’m excited to honor country music’s greatest talent at this spectacular awards show.”

McEntire has won 11 Academy of Country Music Awards and has 41 nominations total. In 2001, she was awarded the first annual Academy of Country Music/The Home Depot Humanitarian Award for her outstanding philanthropic work.

In 2003, the Academy of Country Music awarded her the title of “Leading Lady” for being the all-time leading winner in the Top Female Vocalist category with seven wins. This year, McEntire is also up for the Vocal Event of the Year award for her duet, "Because of You," with Kelly Clarkson.

Emerson Drive, which will perform at Winstock Saturday, June 14 at 4:55 p.m., received a nod in the Top Vocal Group category for the second time, along with a nomination for Song of the Year for the hit "Moments."

Competing against Emerson Drive for that Top Vocal Duo award is fellow Winstock performer Montgomery Gentry, set to close the show at Winstock Friday, June 13 with a performance at 10:45 p.m.

Emerging Artist Stage performer Lady Antebellum is in the running for the Top New Duo or Vocal Group award, while Kellie Pickler, who will bring her "Red High Heels" to Winstock Saturday, June 14, is up for the Top New Female Vocalist award.

“This is really awesome," Pickler said in response to her award nomination. "A few years ago when I was a roller skating waitress at Sonic, I was never nominated as employee of the month, but maybe that was because I spilled a lot of the food on the cars. Now, I’m doing what I love and to get recognized for it is even more special.”

Rodney Atkins, who performed at Winstock last year, received six nominations - second only behind Kenny Chesney, who is up for 11 awards. Miranda Lambert, who also performed at Winstock 2007, received three nominations, as well.

The Academy of Country Music Awards will be broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Sunday, May 18 at 8 p.m. on CBS. Check local listings for more details.
